Santa Margherita Maria Alacoque - Apostola del Sacro Cuore - Dipinto di Dino Carbetta
"Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque: Apostle of the Sacred Heart - A Painting by Dino Carbetta"
Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque, chosen by Christ to rekindle the Church’s awareness of His divine love, unveiled the mysteries of the Sacred Heart—a powerful symbol of His infinite mercy and compassion. Her early life, marked by illness and family struggles, became a journey of profound surrender and unwavering faith. After considering marriage, she responded to God’s call and entered the Visitation Order at 24, where her humility and gentle spirit stood out even under severe criticism and misunderstanding. In December 1674, three years after taking her vows, Margaret Mary received her first vision of Christ, His Sacred Heart ablaze with love. Through her, He called for a renewal of devotion to His heart, asking for reparation for the coldness and ingratitude of the world. He requested frequent Communion, prayer vigils, and the establishment of a feast in honor of His Sacred Heart. Despite facing mockery from her peers and skepticism from theologians, she persevered with the support of Jesuit priest St. Claude de la Colombière, who recognized the divine authenticity of her revelations. Margaret Mary died at 43, her final words, “I need nothing but God, and to lose myself in the heart of Jesus,” capturing the essence of her life’s mission. Her legacy endures in the Church’s devotion to the Sacred Heart, a devotion that has touched millions over the centuries. This painting of Saint Margaret Mary beautifully brings her spiritual journey to life, portraying her in deep contemplation, her heart aligned with the Sacred Heart of Christ she so loved and served. In an age of skepticism, the private revelations of saints like Margaret Mary may seem distant and hard to grasp. Her timeless message reveals that God’s boundless love invites us to deeper communion with Him. Margaret Mary’s life shows that devotion to the Sacred Heart calls us to prayer, reparation, and transformative love.
